Proposals of Practical Excercises in Zoology Based on Protists and Invertebrates from Freshwater Aquaria
Talavášková, Barbora ; Mourek, Jan (advisor) ; Říhová, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis deals with proposals for practical exercises using freshwater aquaria in teaching elementary schools and junior high schools that focus on protozoa and invertebrates. The main aim of the thesis is to propose practical exercises using elements of inquiry-based science education. Using identification cards of protozoa and microscopic invertebrates, pupils can learn about these organisms during laboratory exercises with microscopes. A total of fourteen cards with representatives of protozoa, invertebrates, algae and cyanobacteria typical of freshwater aquariums are presented. Each of the identification cards contains a basic description, as well as a procedure for the pupils to observe and draw the organism. They are accompanied by a photograph, a pen drawing and a QR code that links to a video of the observation of the representative under the microscope. Another proposal is a practical exercise focusing on the food chain of standing water. Also included is a worksheet focusing on independent laboratory work by students on water quality analysis using the Pasco laboratory technique. The contribution of this work is the actual experience of setting up a school freshwater aquarium. The process of setting up the aquarium and investigating it is described in this thesis. The succession of...

Practical courses and modification of selected tasks from Biology olympiad
Filipová, Jana ; Janštová, Vanda (advisor) ; Hrozinka, Šimon (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to summarize the integration of hands-on activities into biology lessons and to compare them with the requirements in the high-school curriculum. Further it inquires the influence of hands-on activities on the knowledge of students and their interest in the subject, and it summarizes previous findings about this topic. Sources available show that hands-on activities have a positive impact and are benefitial to students. This thesis also gives some examples of chemical tests suitable to be carried out in lessons. These tests can serve as proofs of carbohydrates, lipides and proteins in plants.
Testing the influence of newly created learning materials for the fluorescent microscope on students` knowledge
Filipová, Jana ; Janštová, Vanda (advisor) ; Mourek, Jan (referee)
Among students, interest in Science is decreasing, despite the fact that knowledge of Science can be useful in many real life situations, such as medicine, conservation etc. Science education can also simply help to form a positive attitude towards nature. There are many possibilities of increasing students' interest in Science that could increase their motivation to study. Apart from Inquiry Based Education or Prescribed Practical Activities, working with devices used in research practice is one of the possibilities. If a school doesn't own such devices, there is a possibility to borrow them, or to work with them via the Internet. Possibilities of remote access to these devices are subject to research abroad, and this trend is also starting to appear in the Czech Republic. One example of a device that can be borrowed by schools is a fluorescence microscope at the Department of Didactics and Education of Biology, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. In my thesis, I was investigating the influence of the presence or absence of this fluorescence microscope on the knowledge of students. Research was carried out in four different classes at two secondary schools in Prague. Students who took part in this research were from the first year of a four year secondary school or from the third...
Fungi in the Teaching of Natural History and Biology

Development of elementary musical skills for pre-school children with the help of the soprano flute playing
HELLEBRANTOVÁ, Kamila
The work is focused on children in pre-school age and on development of their musicality through game in the nursery school team. This age group is also briefly described from the physical, mental and emotional point of view. Almost all its chapters include practical exercises at first breathing exercises, then the movement ones with including practising fine motor skills and at the end there are games with fipple flute. These are preceded by a short description of development of this musical instrument starting from its origin up to this day and justification of its use in nursery schools as a possibility to increase the group of Orff musical instruments. This work also introduces some eminent Czech musical teachers (prof. Václav Žilka, prof. PhDr. Eva Jenčková, CSc., Petr Eben, Kvapils, PaeDr. Alena Tichá PhD., Mgr. Zdeněk Šimanovský) and their methodology, that includes besides other things suitable games for the age of 3 - 6. These have also been an inspiration for creating some of our own plays with flute.
Microscopic Fungi in Practical Exercises at Lower Secondary School
Tejmlová, Kristýna ; Pavlasová, Lenka (advisor) ; Skýbová, Jana (referee)
Microscopic fungi (micromycetes) is a topic that is at lower secondary schools neglected and mentioned only marginally. Fungi are of great importance for humans in their everyday life, whether negative or positive. It is the reason to rethink how and when to inform pupils about them. The aim of my thesis is to create my own practical exercises that acquaint the pupils of lower secondary schools with the appearance, properties, occurrence, uses, cultivation methods, and last, but not least with the safety of micromycets. In the practical exercises are used basic methods of work with micromycets such as inoculation of the population from the natural environment to a sterile culture medium, the sedimentation method or the method of spreading a dilute suspension of the stick on the agar medium. The revaccination is used to eliminate secondary structures. Then we deal with the possibility of preparing culture media. Isolated cultures of microscopic fungi are identified by macroscopic characters. Due to the safety with micromycets, I recommend to teach microscopic characteristics in high school. The presented practical exercises were verified at the lower secondary school in Vinařice by pupils of the 6th class. The practical exercises proved to be suitable for pupils in lower secondary school. Securing...
